ALLEGAN, MI – Ropes Courses, Inc. (RCI) recently acquired Colorado-based Amaze’n Mazes™ as they continue to form alliances and partnerships with companies specializing in attractions that provide interactive and engaging challenges for families. The announcement was made at the annual IAAPA Expo last week in Orlando, Florida. The purchase price was not disclosed. Amaze’n Mazes™ founder Greg Gallavan will continue as a consultant to RCI to provide operational guidance on design, construction, and themes.
Amaze’n Mazes™ was launched in 1988 by Gallavan in Winter Park, Colorado as an indoor family fun center with a small maze, video arcade, burger bar, and mini golf course. Since that time, more than 75 Amaze’n Mazes™ have been designed and installed in 22 U.S. states and 11 international locations from Hungary to South Korea and Australia to Mexico. Over the decades, innovations have included aqua mazes and custom-designed elements to blend with the natural setting including ski resorts, state parks, and fairgrounds.
One of the most successful innovations in the past decade has been the combination of a human maze on the ground level with a high ropes course constructed directly above it to provide two attractions on a single footprint. The two distinct activities cater to a wide range of age and ability levels and both can be operated in adverse weather conditions.
Ropes Courses, Inc. has been manufacturing, installing, and servicing adventure course products since 1989 including its signature Sky Trail® course. More than 350 courses are in operation in 25 countries around the world. The acquisition will assist RCI to continue expanding their product portfolio and family entertainment options.
“The staff at Ropes Courses, Inc. has known and worked with Greg for a number of years,” explained Jon Weston, vice president of sales and marketing for RCI. “This acquisition allows us to tap into Greg’s expertise in maze design as well as his network of contacts and venues around the U.S. and the world,” he added.
RCI will also continue to use the name Amaze’n Mazes™.
“RCI is a top-notch company that can take Amaze‘n Mazes to the next level and bring our unique combination of a human maze topped by a Sky Trail® high ropes course to a wider audience,” said Gallavan. “I’m excited to see where we can take this collaboration in the next few years.”
The acquisition follows the recent partnership agreement that RCI signed with New Zealand-based Clip ‘n Climb® earlier this fall to manufacture their climbing structures in Michigan and to assume distribution responsibilities of the climbing walls to North and South American markets.
