Allegan, Mich. (Mar. 20, 2018) — After a “soft” opening at the end of December 2017, the much-anticipated Allegan Event Center, a 13,000 sq. ft. indoor adventure center with more than 20 interactive attractions, is now officially open. The new active entertainment center provides an extension to Allegan Event’s thrilling double zipline that soars across the Kalamazoo River and opened last summer. Owned and operated by Jim and Michelle Liggett, founders of Allegan-based Ropes Courses, Inc. (RCI), the new facility can entertain up to 300 people at one time.
Anchored by the two-story Sky Trail® Discovery ropes course that rises 35 feet in the air, the exciting course also offers two Sky Rail™ ziplines and offers 60 different elements including a rolling log, a swaying ladder, and a narrow balancing beam. Along with the 80-foot straight rail on the course, a 100-foot curved rail adds an additional twist to the ordinary zipping experience. For additional fun, the new course also includes a QUICKjump free-fall exit from the second level of the course. The controlled descent adds another dimension of excitement for adventurous participants.
The new Allegan Event Center also has 17 very distinctive and colorful 30-foot high Clip ‘n Climb® climbing walls. Along with two Speed Climb structures, the other climbing panels have whimsical names such as Morse Code, Spaghetti Junction, and Dry Ice with varying degrees of obstacles and difficulty.
Younger children, with a maximum height of 48”, can explore the Sky Tykes® ropes course that is scaled for their height and size. It offers 13 different elements and a Sky Rail® zipline to deliver the same fun and challenge that teens and adults are navigating on the new Sky Trail®. An adult is able to accompany a child participant and provide guidance to increase comfort.
Thrill seekers will also want to be one of the first to try the Vertical Drop Slide, originally designed by New Zealand company Clip ‘n Climb®, an RCI partner. Participants put on a skydiving suit and helmet and then while holding on to a handlebar, are lifted up the face of the slide. At the 30-foot summit, participants release the handle bar and plunge into a 10-foot free fall before sliding the remainder of the distance to the ground on the slide.
“The opening of the new Allegan Event Center is the culmination of several years of envisioning, planning, and construction by our entire staff to create an innovative and active destination where families, couples, teens, and kids can play together in a dynamic setting in any kind of weather,” explained Jim Liggett, co-owner of the new center. “As technology and devices seem to take over more and more of our time each day, we feel like it is vitally important to create attractions that encourage people to put down their smartphones and tablets and invest in play time that is both engaging and challenging,” added Michelle Liggett, co-owner.
In addition to catering to locals and visitors to Allegan, plans call for the new facility to serve as both a showroom and training area for RCI’s clients that come from around the world to see and experience RCI’s wide range of products including high ropes courses, climbing walls, ziplines, and human mazes.
The Allegan Event Center is located at 439 River Street in Allegan, Mich. The facility will be open during Spring Break for visitors to enjoy on March 30 from 12pm-9pm, March 31 from 10am-9pm and April 2-6 from 10am-8pm.
