Welcome Steve Morse to the RCI family!

RCI recently had another new addition to our growing adventure team so we thought we would keep that spotlight burning bright and introduce Steve Morse! Steve is currently filling the role of Account Executive and can’t wait to learn all there is to know about the products we offer as well as the ins and outs of the amusement attractions industry.

Get to know Steve a little better by checking out the Q & A featured below. We’re excited to have a new member of the RCI family!

Tell us a little about yourself, Steve!

I grew up in Grand Rapids and have lived there my entire life. I graduated from Grand Valley State University in the late 90s with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism. After graduation, I entered into radio broadcasting for 10 years until I moved to sales which I have done for the past 12 years. I really love to golf, help my youngest son with baseball (someone has to pay for my retirement so I need him to make the MLB), fish at our cottage up north and hang out with lots of friends on the weekends. I’m also a member of the Grand Rapids FOP (Fraternal order of Police).

How did you hear about RCI?

I saw a posting for the position and knew this would be something that I would very much enjoy as I have always gravitated towards unique industries and roles in my sales career.

When did you start?

May 7, 2018

What was your past experience and how did it prepare you for this job?

I started in radio advertising sales which got my basics down for selling and allowed me to see what made a good sales experience vs. a bad one. After that, I worked in a home based business for 3 years, managed business liquidations via online auctions for 3 years and led the sales efforts of a small company in Grand Rapids for the last 3.5 years including marketing, sales, website design, pricing, leadership and more. These different roles have allowed me to interact with almost any potential client I may deal with and adapt my approach to best serve them moving forward.

What surprised you most when you first started at RCI?

I was most surprised by the amount of planning, preparation, design, engineering and detail that goes into every single course that is designed.

Do you have any special hidden talents?

I can drive really well with just my knees, but my wife doesn’t appreciate this like I do so I don’t do it often.

What is a goal you have for yourself with regards to your new position?

I want to learn as much as I can about the industry, the clients we serve, their goals, how our products can benefit them and continued growth for RCI.

What is your favorite part about working at RCI so far?

I really appreciate the many different aspects of the Account Executive role and how much goes into each project.  While this seems overwhelming, it is  great to be able to learn so many new things in a short amount of time.

What do you appreciate the most about our products (Sky Trail®, Sky Rail™, Sky Tykes®, Amaze’n Mazes™, Clip ’n Climb®?)

RCI has done an amazing job  engineering safe products with innovative designs.

What does a typical day on the job involve for you?

At this point, I am still trying to learn as much as I can, but I will work closely with RCI’s sales and marketing departments. I plan on maintaining a working knowledge of who we serve, amusement industry trends and adventure product innovations so I can serve our clients to the best of my ability. I will meet prospective clients face-to-face and attend trade shows so I can gain an understanding of what our clients needs are based on the industry or region they belong to.

I know you haven’t been here long, but what is something you’ve already learned since you started working at RCI?

I’ve learned that there are many unique aspects to a lot of opportunities which we can adapt to – colors, designs, options, etc. We have the ability to tailor our products so they best work with the business which we are communicating with and can ensure they utilize their space to enhance customer experiences.

Ultimate rivalry question: Michigan State or University of Michigan?

I’d have to say U of M. My dad is a huge fan so I wasn’t given much of an option on that one!
