World’s Largest Ropes Course
The American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, NJ, is home to Legends of the Hidden Temple ropes course, the world’s tallest ropes course. RCI Adventure Products built this course in 2019. It includes 9 levels, reaching nearly 100-feet in height and offers more than 80 obstacles. Themed after the Nickelodeon kid’s gameshow of the same name, the course includes levels named Medusa’s Lair, the Viper’s Nest and Bamboo Forest. The Shrine of the Silver Monkey, a popular part of the gameshow that ran for three seasons, is now located on the top level of the course at the end of our popular Walk the Plank element, a narrow beam that takes daring participants over the edge of the course.
Indoor malls with ropes courses
The American Dream Mall is just one of many indoor retail spaces where RCI has installed a ropes course. RCI continues to support mall revitalization projects as property managers look build on the guest experience. Adventure attractions like ropes course and climbing walls not only have a wide age range appeal, they also extend time spent on property, further supporting increased shopping and secondary sales like food and beverage.
Similar to the American Dream Mall’s course, the Dutchman’s Deck Adventure Course at the Mall of American in Bloomington, MN, towers 56 feet above the mall’s Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park. RCI Adventure Products built the 4-level adventure course over 10 years ago. The Destiny USA Mall in Syracuse is home of the world’s largest suspended ropes course. Operated by WonderWorks, the Canyon Climb ropes course is 70 feet tall, has 3 levels and 81 different obstacles.
Adventure attractions at open air shopping centers
Created in 1999 and celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2024, the Easton Town Center in Columbus, OH, is an example of a growing network of open-air shopping centers. With over 200 retailers and 1.7 million square feet of space, it pulls in an estimated 30 million visitor per year. This is just one example of urban retail centers that have broken away from the traditional indoor mall. Reduced operating costs and increased visibility are two primary drivers behind the continued growth of open-air shopping centers. These destinations have also become entertainment hubs, hosting live screenings of games, concerts, fashion shows and workshops. And like their indoor cousins, outdoor malls benefit from attractions like mini-golf, movie theaters, bowling centers and ropes courses.
Unharnessed ropes course
A new and popular product offered by RCI Adventure Products is our Adventure Trail and Adventure Tykes, two net-play, unharnessed adventure courses. Unlike our Sky Trail® ropes course, which required trained operators to harness guests and help them get on and off course, our net-play courses require minimal staffing. Guests are free to move on and off course. Every bit of the course is surrounded in netting, which prevents falling. The netting is strong and rigid enough to support guests if they lean, step and lay on it. Adventure Tykes is designed for kids 4-years and younger and includes challenging bridge, beam and rope obstacles.
